Some things just have to go, and that includes the harmful, violent systems of oppression and control over people of the global majority, especially Black and Indigenous folks. I remind myself that I lived in a world without ICE, just 23 years ago in 2003. I remind myself that centralized policing in the South began as a way to patrol and enslave Black people in 1704 – recent, in the grand scope of human life on earth. And these systems of forced labor in detention, i.e. enslavement, persist in today’s prison system and Cop Cities here to military bases and occupation of peoples around the world.
